Children learning of parental separation can also impact their psychological and social development, leading to long term depression and social withdrawal.
Children may experience intense anxiety and depression in parental separation, and if not addressed, could become long term. Children will gain lower moods, increased persistent worry and even fear of abandonment from one or both parents.
Children are less likely to adjust to changing family dynamics following parental separation, or form new friendships/relationships with peers, which can go on to adolescence or adulthood.
Children may fear of being stigmatized by peers when they notice one parent isn’t around or why their family looks lacking during events like school gatherings or social occasions.
